Themes:

  • 2025 – “Darpan Drishti” or “The Mirror”: The theme explored the relationship between the inner and outer self. The concept suggested that although people mainly see one another’s external identity, Goddess Durga sees both the inner and outer self.
  • 2024 – “Utsa Hote Aseem”: Meaning “from the source to infinity,” the pandal depicted the journey of the Ganges from its origin through places such as Haridwar, Varanasi, Dakshineswar, Kalighat and Sagar, while also highlighting river pollution.
  • 2022 – North American tribal village: The pandal was designed around a tribal-village concept.
  • 2017 – Indigenous Bengali traditions: The theme focused on the sounds, rhythms and earthy cultural traditions of Bengal.
  • 2013 – Violence against women: The puja used the symbolism of Goddess Durga defeating Mahishasura to express opposition to violence against women.

USP:

  1. Long heritage: It has been running since 1984 and has a strong four-decade neighbourhood legacy.
  2. Theme-based storytelling: The pandal is not merely decorative; it communicates a social, cultural, spiritual or environmental idea.
  3. Blend of tradition and creativity: Traditional Bengali rituals are combined with contemporary art, design, lighting and installations.
  4. Community atmosphere: Residents participate in worship, cultural events, food distribution and volunteer activities.
  5. Major attractions: Themed pandal, artistic idol presentation, lighting, cultural programmes, rituals, bhog and community participation.
  6. Social awareness: Past themes have addressed women’s safety, environmental pollution, cultural heritage and self-reflection.
  7. Visitor appeal: Its location in Salt Lake and reputation for imaginative presentations make it a popular stop for pandal-hoppers.
