Santoshpur Trikon Park Durgotsav
Brief history of Santoshpur Trikon Park Durgotsav:
Establishment & Age: Santoshpur Trikon Park Durgotsav is a community Durga Puja in the Santoshpur–Jadavpur area of South Kolkata. It began in 1950; in 2026, it is celebrating its 77th year.
The puja is organised by the Santoshpur Trikon Park Durgotsab Committee and is held at Santoshpur Trikon Park, near Sukanto Setu and Jadavpur.
Location: 31, Santoshpur Avenue, Near Sukanto Setu, Santoshpur, Kolkata- 700075, South Kolkata
Themes:
- 2026 – “Uttaran” (“Transition”): The theme marks the community’s emergence from the trauma of the pandemic and recent upheavals, symbolising a passage from darkness into light and renewal.
- 2025 – “Bindu” (“Dot / Point”): The 76th-year concept explored the idea of a central point in science, spirituality and existence – creation, preservation and destruction revolving around a single bindu, with Maa Durga at its core.
- 2024 – “Ujjapon” (“Celebration”): In its 75th year, the theme celebrated 75 years of the Indian Constitution alongside 75 years of the puja, using theatre, tableaux and symbolic idols to highlight rights, discrimination and constitutional values.
- 2020 – “Abhash” (“Intuition / Hunch”): Installation artist Asim Paul designed the pandal around intuition and subtle perception, using light, space and minimalistic forms.
- The puja has a long tradition of theme-based presentation since the early 2000s, blending artistic concepts with social and philosophical ideas.
USP:
- Concept-driven, intellectual themes: Strong focus on abstract and civic ideas – such as the Constitution, a cosmic “bindu”, and post-pandemic transition – rather than purely decorative motifs.
- Integration of art and citizenship: The 2024 Constitution theme uniquely combined artistic sensibility with patriotic and democratic values.
- Collaboration with noted artists: Regular work with established installation artists (e.g., Asim Paul) to realise complex thematic visions.
- South Kolkata community anchor: A long-standing puja for the Santoshpur–Jadavpur neighbourhood, with steady local participation and recognition in South Kolkata pandal lists.
- Accessible location: Situated on a main avenue near Sukanto Setu, making it easy to include in a Jadavpur–Santoshpur–Gariahat route.
In Summary:
Santoshpur Trikon Park Durgotsav, started in 1950 and now in its 77th year, is a South Kolkata community puja at Santoshpur Trikon Park, Jadavpur. Its USP lies in intellectually rich, theme-driven presentations – such as the Constitution-focused “Ujjapon” (2024), the cosmic “Bindu” (2025) and the post-pandemic “Uttaran” (2026) – realised through collaborations with noted artists and strong neighbourhood support.
